In those days one of my timewastin' activities was creating concepts for metal bands. I had a couple of friends who were either playing in five combos each or changing band every now and then, and I remember at least three concept stories I wrote down a treatment for.
Those guys wanted narrative stuff to sing about - 'twas quite the main fad in Italy then, dunno about now.
This nice and lovely young woman's name is Elissa. *Not* a misspelled version of "Elisa" (italian for Elise or Eliza or whatever): Elissa is another story. It's the phoenician name of Dido, queen of Chartage. Maybe "Dido" sounds nice, but that name's taken from the latin nominative form; in Italy we "translate" latin names from the ablative case, which leads to Dido being called "Didone" [Deeh-dòaw-nay] in our language. To an Italian speaker, "Didone" sounds very fat and male, like "Big fat guy Dido". Not the right name for a queen.
By the way, Elissa up here's not a queen. But since she's in love with some monster-warrior-humanlike-whatever guy, I wanted to name 'em after some troubled lovers I knew of. Therefore she's Elissa and the monster is called Aeneas. Clever, uh.
About the drawing itself: this is the one and only drawing I've made of Elissa so far. Pencil sketched in 2001, greys and blacks quickly added yesterday using Macromedia Fireworks. Nice and easy.
